Gran Fonda Tour Against Cancer

June 29, 2024

Family Fun Ride   •   30, 50, and 75 mile routes
40 and 50 mile gravel routes!

Dave Fonda, the founder of and inspiration for this event, loved cycling and his community. He started this fundraiser in 2007, dedicated to parlaying his passion into a cause that could help those fighting cancer. Although Dave lost his own battle in 2018, we keep him a part of this event by renaming it in his honor. Now, we hope the Gran Fonda Tour Against Cancer will inspire others to ride for a greater purpose.

Enjoy a healthy bike ride while fighting cancer. Ride some of the most beautiful roads in northwest Illinois!

This event will begin at 8 a.m. at Tutty's Crossing Trailhead, 250 E. Stephenson Street in Freeport.

Please complete the Gran Fonda Registration and Waiver Form.

For the 2024, we will use the "classic" routes starting from Tutty's Crossing. The routes include a short 5 mile out and back route on the trail for families with young children, the standard 30, 50, and 75 mile road routes, the 30 mile to Orangeville and back on the trail, and new 40 and 50 mile gravel routes. At this point, nearly all the roads have been scouted and are open.

Rest stops and re-supply:

  • 5 mile short route at the turn-around point where the trail crosses Highwy 26
  • 30 mile routes at the trail shelter in Orangeville, and the adjacent gas station for other supplies
  • 50 mile route at the trail shelter in Orangeville, the gas station, the artesian well and gas station in Winslow, and a rest stop in Red Oak
  • 75 mile route at the trail shelter in Orangeville and gas station, the artesian well and gas station in Winslow, several commercial options in Warren, Stockton, and Pearl City
  • The gravel routes are unsupported
