MAY10 ‘No Child Wet Behind' Giveaway for Parents in Need
‘No Child Wet Behind' Giveaway for Parents in Need
The diaper is one of the many overlooked costs of poverty. Babies require up to 12 diapers a day, and toddlers can require as many as 8. State and national safety-net programs do not assist with diapers for families living in poverty.

The FHN Value Support Team has organized a diaper (and other essentials) giveaway for parents in Stephenson and Jo Daviess counties. The diapers and other essentials for the event have been donated by FHN and Aramark team members.

No Child Wet Behind will be held from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (or while supply lasts) Tuesday, May 10 in the Lincoln Mall parking lot, 1247 W. Galena Avenue in Freeport.

Parents are invited to receive a free a bundle of size-appropriate diapers (sizes 2 and up) for each child in their household at this free, drive-through, COVID-19 safe event. Each household also will receive an essentials bundle containing baby wipes, wash, lotion, and powder.

Parents may also receive a free car seat check at the event, and speak with representatives from WIC and Illinois Family Connects. Information about and support for breastfeeding, postpartum depression, and other health concerns will be available at the event, as well.

JUN09 Gran Fonda Tour Against Cancer is June 25
Gran Fonda Tour Against Cancer is June 25
Area cyclists and families are invited to enjoy some healthy exercise and see some of the area’s most beautiful roads on their own, or in person as part of a safely socially distanced group for this year’s 15th Gran Fonda Tour Against Cancer.

Dave Fonda, the founder of and inspiration for this event, loved cycling and his community. He began this fundraiser in 2007, dedicated to parlaying his passion into a cause that could help those fighting cancer. Dave lost his own battle with cancer in 2018, and the event has been renamed in his honor. (A Gran Fondo - Italian for “Big Ride” - is a timed long-distance road cycling ride officially defined by the Italian Cycling Federation as being at least 75 miles long.)

The in-person event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at Oakdale Nature Preserve, 4433 S Cranes Grove Road in Freeport. Riders can choose from various routes or simply enjoy a fun bike ride of any length dedicated to those who are battling or have battled cancer. Virtual participants are asked to complete their chosen routes between Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 26.

In lieu of a registration fee, participants and supporters are invited to donate to the Leonard C. Ferguson Cancer Center at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
