FHN Offering Free Evaluation of Sports Injuries on Saturday Mornings
If an athlete turns an ankle or is experiencing some soreness, it's best to have it checked out by a healthcare professional. As school sports season begins, FHN is offering free evaluations of sports- and fitness-related injuries at a series of weekly walk-in clinics held Saturday mornings in the Orthopaedics department at FHN Family Healthcare Center Burchard Hills in Freeport.
No appointment is required for these free evaluations by clinic staff of fitness-and sports-related injuries. Any necessary x-rays, supplies or follow-up visits will be charged accordingly.
Healthcare providers will be available from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturdays August 25 through October 20 to examine fitness-related injuries such as minor sprains. (The clinic will be closed Sept. 1 for Labor Day weekend.)
"A simple examination often can determine the extent of an injury,” said FHN Athletic Training Team Leader Emily Giglio MS, ATC/LAT, NCTMB, LMT. “If the athlete has sustained a strain or sprain, we can talk with them about some stretching or strengthening exercises that might help prevent a more serious injury in the future, and recommend a follow-up with their high school athletic trainer. If the injury looks like it could be more serious, they're in the right place for further evaluation.”
